Product Introduction
Pittsburgh 1/700 Skywave Series US Navy Heavy Cruiser CA-72 Pittsburgh 1944 Plastic Model W260
Pittsburgh was commissioned in October 1944 as the fifth Baltimore-class heavy cruiser built after the expiration of the Washington Naval Treaty.
It was equipped with three triple 20.3cm main guns, six twin 12.7cm dual-purpose secondary guns, and numerous 40mm and 20mm machine guns for enhanced anti-aircraft armament.
Deployed to the Pacific, it participated in the Iwo Jima landings. In March 1945, it rescued and towed the aircraft carrier CV-13 Franklin, which was heavily damaged in the Battle of Kyushu. It then served again in the Battle of Okinawa as an escort ship for the carrier task force, but lost its bow in a typhoon.
It returned to Guam without its bow and was under repair until the end of the war.
