The circuit that the EHX Percolator is based on is one such example. The original unit, born in the 1970s in an audio repair shop in Milwaukee, USA, was produced in extremely limited numbers, and its circuitry was sealed in resin (gooped), so its details are unknown. Due to its rarity, it has gained a cult following and is now a legendary item. The EHX Percolator is a model that adds modern control features to that original circuitry. At the heart of its sound is a unique gain structure that covers everything from rough overdrive to intense fuzz. It uses asymmetrical clipping that emphasizes even-order harmonics, so the sound responds musically to the nuances of your playing. It produces rich expression with delicate picking and explosive sounds with aggressive attacks.
