Media Reviews and More
"This is the first full-length album from this five-piece band, fronted by British vocalist Emily Alice Ovenden. While appearing to evoke symphonic female gothic, their musical foundation is melodic power metal akin to Sonata Arctica, exquisitely blending a sense of speed and heroism with a delicate European sensibility and, by extension, a mellow British one. Emily's clear voice occasionally disappoints those expecting a rock-like "forced" sound, but on the flipside, it often blends perfectly with the powerful, precise performance, creating a powerful and distinctive sound. We look forward to seeing more from them in the future. A cover of Gary Moore's "Thunder Rising" is also included as a bonus track." " (Akihisa Ozawa) --YOUNG GUITAR (March 2011 issue)
About the Artist
Led by Emily Alice Ovenden, a member of the popular British medieval music all-female chorus MEDIAEVAL BAEBES, the band was formed in 2008 by members from the UK scene who came together to play metal music that combined themes inspired by Gothic literature with the brave themes of power metal. They began actively performing live, collaborating with Tarja (ex-NIGHTWISH) and MINISTRY, and appearing at major festivals such as Blood Stock 09. The singles "Sarah (Bury Her)" and "Army of the Damned" were released in their home country in August 2009 and October 2010, respectively, and were immediately met with positive media acclaim. The band followed up with the single "Army of the Damned" in March 2010. They have been gaining attention in their home country, appearing on IRON MAIDEN's Bruce Dickinson's radio show, collaborating with ARCH ENEMY, and appearing at Metal Female Voice Fest. Ahead of their second album, which is currently in production, they will be making their Japanese debut!
