Product Introduction
Fine Molds 1/72 US Air Force F-4E Fighter (Late Model) Clark Airbase Plastic Model FF06 The F-4's most powerful version, the E-type, boasts improved maneuverability thanks to the addition of fixed slats to the stabilizer (tail stabilizer). However, increased weight due to the addition of cannons and other equipment modifications led to concerns about maneuverability. Starting with the E-type's later production lots (including export models), the leading edge flaps on the wing were replaced with movable leading edge slats, significantly improving maneuverability. This modification, which was also implemented on existing production aircraft, was also adopted for the Navy's S-type. The movable leading edge slats were also called air combat flaps, but in recent years they have been referred to as "soft wings," while the conventional standard wing is referred to as a "hard wing." This product recreates the soft wing using a new mold. The outer wing portion of the leading edge slats is a separate part for increased realism. The TISEO optical television camera is also recreated using a new mold, with the lens made of a clear part. The included decals feature the markings of the 3rd Tactical Wing (3TFW) of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces, deployed to Clark Air Base in the Philippines after the Vietnam War. The 3rd Fighter Squadron (3TFS) under the 3TFW contributed to stability in the South China Sea for many years, deterring Vietnam and the Soviet Union. The F-4E, with its long-nose shark teeth design, is a familiar sight in Japan, frequently flying to Yokota Air Base and Kadena Air Base. The package illustration depicts a scene on the Clark Air Base apron circa 1984. This product is a plastic model kit that requires assembly and painting.
