Oscar François de Jarjayes, a beautiful woman disguised as a man, was raised as the "son" of the Shogun's family. Marie Antoinette, the noble and elegant queen who married into the family from neighboring Austria. Andre Grandier, Oscar's attendant and childhood friend, a commoner. Hans Axel von Fersen, a handsome and intelligent Swedish count. They meet in the glorious city of Versailles in late 18th-century France, and, despite being tossed about by the tides of time, they beautifully live out their respective destinies.
